The delegation headed by the Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Uzbekistan Jamshid Khojayev is on a business visit to Geneva, Switzerland. Until then, a number of meetings were held with representatives of international organizations on the agenda of the visit. In particular, on March 14, 2023, he held talks with the Director General of the World Trade Organization (WTO), Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala. During the meeting, issues of accelerating the process of Uzbekistan's WTO membership were discussed, including the possibility of holding the 6th meeting of the Working Group on March 14-15 of this year. In order to accelerate our country's membership in the organization, it was noted that it is necessary to activate bilateral negotiations with all WTO member countries on entering the markets of goods and services and to sign relevant protocols on their results. The Director General of the WTO welcomed the efforts of the Government of Uzbekistan in the framework of the WTO membership process, including bilateral negotiations with major member states. According to him, due to the active initiative of Uzbekistan, cooperation with the organization gained positive dynamics. Currently, the 6th meeting of the Working Group on Uzbekistan's WTO membership is being held. At this two-day meeting, more than 10 new documents related to all aspects of the trade regime of the republic will be considered.
