The shipment of the first batches of fresh watermelons from Uzbekistan to foreign markets began in the first ten days of May this year, about a week earlier than last year.

But its mass export started in the middle of May, and in a short period of time, Uzbekistan exported more than 30 thousand tons of fresh watermelons, setting a historical record at the beginning of the season.

According to preliminary trade statistics, in May 2023, Uzbekistan exported a total of 30,400 tons of watermelons with a total value of 6.5 million dollars, which is physically 9 times more than in the same period last year and May 2021 is 12 times more than the month. Almost all of this volume (more than 99%) was sent to the CIS countries.

At the same time, the most active period of sending watermelons from Uzbekistan to foreign markets is the third ten days of May, and almost 95% of the export volume was contributed by this month. In other words, in the last ten days of May this year, about 29 thousand tons of watermelons were sent from Uzbekistan to foreign markets, which means an average of 2.6 thousand tons per day.

The optimistic start of the current export season of Uzbekistan's watermelon in this way is a reason to assume that Uzbekistan can break the record export of this product last year by the end of the 2023 season.
