Former U.S. President Donald Trump was officially indicted in August 2022 in a criminal case involving classified documents found at his residence. This was announced by the former president himself.
The articles of impeachment against Trump will be revealed on Tuesday, June 13, the same day he must officially surrender to the police in Miami. A precaution against the politician is then chosen, with the materials of the investigation published.
The New York Times, citing two sources, writes that the indictment will include seven episodes, including Ont drinking and conspiracy to obstruct justice. The investigation is headed by Jack Smith, a specially appointed independent prosecutor.
In a statement, Trump did not admit guilt and wrote that he sees the day as the “darkest day” for the United States. Prosecutors and White House officials said they would not comment on Smith's decision until the allegations were made public.
This is the second criminal case to be opened against Trump. In April, he was accused by New York state judges of falsifying business records. The trial will begin in March 2024.
Trump is a major contender for the Republican presidential nomination in future elections. Even if he is found guilty under one article and sent to prison, this does not deprive him of the right to run for the presidency of the United States.
