Neighbors exist not only in humans, but also in animals, countries, and planets. They say that neighborliness is a thousand years. In order for people not to forget that they are neighbors with each other, in 2004, a new holiday was established in Paris - the Day of European Neighbors. This holiday is celebrated every year on the last Friday of May. So today this holiday is celebrated in Europe. The holiday was founded by French citizen Athanase Perifan. In 1999, he and his friends founded the "Paris d'Amis" association in the 17 districts of Paris. The purpose of this association was to strengthen social ties and prevent people from becoming isolated. The participants of the association helped the neighbors who were in a difficult situation, in difficult conditions, with low income by collecting clothes, food and money, and helped them find a job.
Although the holiday is called the Day of European Neighbors, every year the number of people who celebrate this day in other countries is increasing. That is, neighbors, 1450 partner cities "cross" European borders - more than 30 million participants from 49 countries will participate.
How is the holiday celebrated?
Participants organize a party with their neighbors, i.e. in a park, backyard, local community hall, etc. Even neighbors who don't know each other get to know each other better on the occasion of this holiday. Neighbors give each other gifts, are guests, share sweets and traditional dishes, just like in our Eid holidays.
