Mass arrests of suspects preparing for a violent takeover of power continue in Bishkek. This was reported by the press service of the State Committee of national security of Kyrgyzstan.

Earlier, the prosecutor general of the Republic included in the parliament a request to consent to the criminal prosecution of Adakhan Madumarov, the head of the opposition faction “All Kyrgyzstan”. Madumarov is suspected of irregularities and preparations for a violent takeover of power.

On the same day, on the initiative of the speaker, a deputy commission was formed.

The attorney general is not seeking his first consent to initiate a criminal case against Madumarov. In March 2022, Jogorku Kenesh unanimously rejected such a request.

Additional details of special services will be provided later.

Attempted coup d'état in Kyrgyzstan

In November 2021, more than 15 people — deputies and former officials-were arrested on charges of preparing for a violent takeover of power in Kyrgyzstan.

It was preceded by mass protests in the Republic following the October 2020 parliamentary election. Only four of the 16 parties that contested the Legislative Assembly elections had passed, with protesters unhappy with the results and calling for a re-election. The result was the resignation of then Kyrgyz President Sohronboy Jeenbekov, while the results of the vote were annulled.

The early presidential elections in January of the same year were won by Sadir Japarov, who came to the top of the government after Jeenbekov left, he collected almost 80% of the vote.
