There is no need for Kazakhstan to join the Russia-Belarus Union. President Kasim-Jomart Tokayev announced this during his trip to the North Kazakhstan region.
"Yesterday, the President of the Republic of Belarus Alexander Grigorevich Lukashenko offered Kazakhstan to join the union state. I got his joke right. I don't think it's necessary. After all, there are other integration associations, in particular, the Eurasian Economic Union. As for nuclear weapons, we don't need them. Because we have joined the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty and the Nuclear Test Ban Treaty. We remain committed to our obligations within the framework of these international documents," said the head of Kazakhstan.
Q. Tokayev also emphasized that the Eurasian Economic Union should first deal with the issues of economic integration among the member states.
Let us remind you that on May 28, Alexander Lukashenko said that Kazakhstan will have nuclear weapons if it joins the Russia-Belarus alliance.
