More than 40 people have died of dengue fever in Argentina, and more than 60,000 people have contracted the disease. This was reported by the BBC. It is reported that the infection spreads through mosquitoes. Dengue usually presents with sudden onset of fever, headache, myalgia, arthralgia, and generalized lymphadenopathy, followed by a rash followed by recurrent fever. In addition, respiratory tract infections such as cough, tonsillitis and rhinorrhea, severe cases of hemorrhagic fever causing bleeding and shock can be observed. Diagnosis includes serological test and polymerase chain reaction. Treatment of the disease consists of transfusion therapy in case of symptomatic and hemorrhagic fever. Argentina's Ministry of Health says that cases of the disease have begun to stabilize. Biologists are irradiating thousands of male mosquitoes in laboratories, causing their offspring to die in the future due to DNA damage. The goal is to turn mosquitoes exposed to radiation into a dominant species to prevent the spread of dengue fever. The most deaths were recorded in the northwestern provinces of Salta, Tucuman and Jujuy, which are close to Argentina's borders with Chile and Bolivia. Argentina's Ministry of Health has urged people to step up mosquito control measures, including using mosquito nets on doors and windows, insect repellants and removing any water containers where mosquitoes can breed.
