After 2025, Kazakhstan will gradually increase coal exports to Uzbekistan to 12.8 million tons per year. The Deputy Minister of Industry and Infrastructure Development of Kazakhstan Iran Sharkhan spoke about this at the fourth coal forum held in Astana.
"Today, the government of Kazakhstan approved the "Concept for the development of the fuel and energy complex until 2029", which envisages the implementation of 8 projects, as well as increasing the volume of production. The construction of new power units has begun at the Ekibastuz GRES, and from 2028, thermal power plants will be commissioned in the cities of Kokshetau and Semey. The issue of gradually supplying up to 12.8 million tons of coal to Uzbekistan starting from 2025 is also being considered. The country's export routes will expand," says Iran Sharkhan.
It is noted that last year, Kazakhstan delivered 487,900 tons of coal worth 13.6 million dollars to Uzbekistan. This indicator is 18.4% more than the volume of 2021.
