Over the past day, 7 avalanches descended in Tajikistan, NIAT "Khovar" reports with reference to the Committee for Emergency Situations and Civil Defense under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan.

On February 13, snow avalanches descended on the territories of Shugnan, Ishkashim and the city of Khorog GBAO, as a result of which traffic was temporarily closed on different sections of the Khorog - Ishkashim, Khorog - Murghab and Khorog - Kulyab - Dushanbe highways.

"Yesterday, at about 14:28 p.m., heavy precipitation caused avalanches to the 31st and 32nd km of the Khorog-Ishkashim highway of international importance, passing through the town of Barzhir rural jamoat named after Askar Zakirov of the Ishkashim district of GBAO. In addition, in the evening of the same day, at 27 km of this road near the town of Chukh-Parin in the village of Nishusp of the rural jamoat named after G. Shabozov, an avalanche was recorded. To clear the road, special equipment of the Ministry of Transport of the country was involved. Yesterday at 18:14 p.m., two avalanches were recorded on the 7th km of the Khorog-Ishkashim highway, passing through the town of Nivodak in Khorog. Work is underway to clear the road. As a result of avalanches, there are no victims and no destruction, "the department said.

Due to changes in the weather, due to heavy rainfall and possible cases of emergency situations, all rescue units of the Committee were transferred to an enhanced mode of operation. Rescuers continue round-the-clock duty on the Dushanbe-Khujand mountain highway and monitor other mountain roads of the country.

According to weather forecasters, due to precipitation and an increase in the temperature background in the mountainous areas of the WRP, the southern slopes of the Gissar Range and in the western part of GBAO until February 17, there will remain a high risk of avalanches, rockfalls and mudflows, as well as the formation of ice on passes and mountain sections of roads. There remains a high probability of fog in the valleys and foothills.

In this regard, the Committee reiterates its request to residents to refrain from travelling to avalanche sites, collecting firewood, crops in the foothills and mountains, grazing livestock and hunting.

In order to prevent accidents on the roads, the Committee strongly recommends that drivers observe increased safety measures when driving through passes and mountain roads.
