Immigrants held in detention centers across the US states of Texas, Georgia, and Louisiana have launched a hunger strike. Reports indicate that the detainees are complaining about poor-quality food, difficulties in accessing medical care, and the violation of their rights. At the El Valle center in Texas, 15 women began a hunger strike and staged a protest on October 11 of this year; they were later joined by 20 men. Meanwhile, at the D. Ray James center in Georgia, it is reported that nearly 500 people have taken part in the action.
In response to the situation, the prison administration reportedly stated: "Go ahead and stay on a hunger strike if you want. If you die, we’ll just take you out and bury you."
