The German armed forces financed the upgrade of security and surveillance technology at Termez airport to meet international aviation standards. This was reported by the German embassy in Uzbekistan.

It is noted that these technologies will be installed along an external fence with a length of more than 12 kilometers, as well as in the Operational Center at the airport. Over € 1 million was allocated for these.

In particular, modern, economical LED lamps were used for lighting equipment. The German military attaché was able to see the installation work completed on the airfield site this week.

” The modernization work carried out at Termez International Airport has made a great impression on us and we are pleased that we have made an effective contribution to this, " the message said.

According to the embassy, in 2002-2015, the German armed forces used Termez airport as a strategic hub for air transport as part of their international mission in Afghanistan.

"But even after the withdrawal of the German armed forces, we are closely connected with this airport on the way to becoming a modern international commercial airport,” the embassy said in a message.

Recall that in August 2021, after the Taliban came to power in Afghanistan, Germany and a number of Western countries had organized the evacuation of their citizens from Kabul via Termez airport.
