The Israel Academic Monitor held an event dedicated to Azerbaijan in the city of Even Yehuda.
The State Committee for Work with Diaspora informs AZERTAC that a photo exhibition dedicated to multiculturalism in Azerbaijan was presented at the event. Speaking at the event, the head of Channel 24, journalist Saadat Shukurova Israilov, noted that there has never been anti-Semitism in Azerbaijan: "Among Muslim countries, Azerbaijan is the only country where Jews live comfortably and can freely walk along the street. In general, in Azerbaijan, every national community feels free and independent. Azerbaijanis are kind, hospitable, humane people. Since the rights of national minorities are protected in Azerbaijan, they can protect their language, culture and religion."
Director General of the Israel Academic Monitor organization Dana Barnett in her speech noted that the history of the Azerbaijani model of multiculturalism dates back to 1918, when the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic, the first democratic state in the Muslim world, was founded: "This republic from the very first day was committed to secularism and adhered to an inclusive approach to understanding the nation. This is called Azerbaijanism. Despite the fact that the republic became part of the Soviet Union, the Azerbaijani people were able to return to their roots after gaining independence in the 1990s.
Dana Barnett noted the Azerbaijani model of multiculturalism, which has become a vector of state policy under President Ilham Aliyev.
The founder and general director of the Don Grace Diplomatic Center, political scientist, journalist Rachel Avraham informed the participants of the event about the Khojaly genocide, drawing parallels between the Azerbaijani and Jewish peoples faced with historical injustice.
