In November 2022, with the relevant decree of Shavkat Mirziyoyev, Akmal Mahmudaliyev was entrusted with the duties of the governor of Sirdarya region. Gofurjon Mirzayev, the governor of the province before him, was appointed to the position of adviser to the president on issues of public service, communication with the population and coordination of activities of local authorities.
