Funds are intended for the campaign of the nominated candidate and not for all parties.
4 billion 914 million soums were allocated to each candidate for campaigning in the 2023 presidential elections. Adham Ibodullayev, a member of the Central Election Commission, said this in his answer to the question of a Kun.uz reporter.
Bahrom Kochkarov, the deputy chairman of the CEC, clarified that the funds will be allocated for each candidate, not for a political party.
"As there are currently 4 candidates, funds will be allocated to these 4 candidates. Since one candidate is nominated by two parties, it is possible to use the money allocated to that candidate. The "National Revival" party may or may not participate in the campaign. But within the amount allocated to one candidate," he said.
The member of the commission, Khudoyor Mamatov, explained the process of allocating money for the campaign to the candidates.
"In accordance with Article 64 of the Election Code, there are documents submitted by political parties for presidential candidates. These are the application, the report of the congress of the political party, the application of the candidate's consent to be nominated by this party, and the collected signatures.
The Central Election Commission examines the candidates and registers 4 candidates from 4 parties. Based on the number of registered candidates, money is allocated for the election campaign. "The four candidates will be allocated the same amount of air time, the same publication space at the same time, and the same funds from the state budget," he said.
The extraordinary presidential election in Uzbekistan is scheduled to be held on July 9, 2023.
According to the legislation, campaigning is an activity carried out during the election campaign and aimed at encouraging voters to vote in favor of a candidate or a political party.
