Presidents of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Belarus and the Prime Minister of Armenia took part in the military parade hosted by President Vladimir Putin on May 9 in Moscow, on Red Square. This situation was considered unexpected by political analysts. Because Putin is almost isolated by the international community because of the Ukrainian war. Besides, not a single foreign head of state took part in last year's parade.
Commenting on the participation of CIS leaders in the military parade, Central Asia expert and political analyst Arkady Dubnov emphasized that some experts mistakenly interpreted this as "Putin's geopolitical victory".
It is noted that after the International Criminal Court issued a warrant for the arrest of the President of Russia, his reputation was damaged. Even the leadership of the Republic of South Africa warned Putin not to come to the BRICS summit, otherwise they would have to arrest him. All this is a strong proof that the Russian leader is isolated in the international arena. According to Arkady Dubnov, Putin tried to forcefully gather the leaders of the CIS countries in a military parade to show that this opinion is wrong.
According to the analyst, the leaders of the countries that were once part of the Soviet Union did not reject Putin's personal offer due to political-economic relations and cooperation in the field of energy. This can be considered a pragmatic step. But this, excluding Belarus, does not mean that the CIS countries, including Uzbekistan, will change their position on the war in Ukraine and that they will support Moscow's invasion, the political scientist believes.
Shavkat Mirziyoyev visited Germany immediately after the last presidential election held in Uzbekistan (referendum on amending the Constitution - ed.). The visit included intensive political and business meetings. This was a clear demonstration that Mirziyoyev is following his own path and that cooperation with Europe and the USA is no less important for him than cooperation with Russia. This is a very important point," says A. Dubnov.
The analyst drew attention to the fact that most of Putin's guests did not wear the main symbol of the parade - the "Georgian ribbon".
"The gestures of the leaders on the holiday also carried a deep meaning. (Sardar) Berdimuhamedov, (Kasim-Jomart) Tokayev and (Nikol) Pashinyan did not wear the "Georgian ribbon" on their chests. (Shavkat) Mirziyoyev, (Sadir) Japarov and (Aleksandr) Lukashenko appeared wearing the flags of their countries. Only (Imamali) Rahman and (Vladimir) Putin wore the "Georgian ribbon". This is also a demonstration of independent politics," the expert believes.
Kamoliddin Rabbimov, a political scientist from Uzbekistan, also wrote that the leaders of the CIS initially rejected the offer of the parade and went only after Putin's personal call.
"The details of how these heads of state were invited to Moscow are now coming out. At the beginning, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia came out, and the state leaders ignored them saying that "we had more work to do." He personally "begged" Putin by telephone to the leaders of the desperate states. I imagine: Putin himself calls and says, "Brother, you can't come... These Ukrainians want to shoot me down with a drone... What will happen to me if you don't come and surround me? "He must have cried..." K.Rabbimov put forward his hypothesis.
As we reported earlier, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine protested the participation of Central Asian presidents in the Moscow parade.
