According to the data, the average wholesale price of pink tomatoes decreased by 32%, and red round tomatoes decreased by 33%. According to experts, considering that the wholesale prices of red tomatoes have decreased for the second week in a row, this product has become cheaper by almost 40% in the last two weeks. According to market participants, this is due to a sharp increase in the supply of yellow tomatoes in the domestic market. The volume of delivery of this type of product from greenhouses has increased. At the same time, the first wholesale batches of tomatoes grown in the tunnel method under film from the southern regions of the country also went to the market. According to price monitoring, from April 7 to April 14, 2023, the average wholesale price of red tomatoes decreased from 33,000 to 22,000 soums per 1 kg. At the same time, the average wholesale price of this product is 16% higher than at the same date last year. The decline in the price of pink tomatoes started only this week. From April 7 to April 14, the average wholesale price of this product decreased from 38,000 to 26,000 soums per 1 kg, i.e. by 31.5% in one week. However, unlike red tomatoes, current wholesale prices are still well above last year's levels. As of April 14, 2023, the average wholesale price of pink tomatoes is 1.5 times higher than the same date last year. According to Husan Haydarov, commercial director of GDF Export Company, the largest exporter of fruit and vegetable products of Uzbekistan, the reason for such a sharp drop in the price of red tomatoes in the last week was the significant increase in the volume of deliveries in the domestic market. According to him, this is due to the increase in the volume of offers from heated greenhouses, and at the same time, the first wholesale batches of tomatoes grown in tunnels under film from the southern regions of the country will enter the market. With the withdrawal of abnormally cold weather, starting from the middle of the third ten days of January, the gas pressure in the greenhouses gradually began to recover. Tomato seedlings were planted again at the end of January and beginning of February in the greenhouses that lost the harvest due to the anomalous frost in January. Taking into account the growing season, the tomato harvest has begun in these greenhouses and the first wholesale batches of this product have begun to enter the market. At the moment, the first wholesale batches of tomatoes grown in the tunnel method under the film from the southern regions of the country are entering the market. For example, in Surkhandarya region, the southernmost region of Uzbekistan, a significant increase in air temperature at the end of January made it possible to start planting seedlings of tomatoes grown in this way. As a result, in the last one week to ten days, the volume of delivery of sarkhil tomatoes in the domestic market has increased significantly, which has led to a sharp decrease in the price of this product. In addition, under favorable weather conditions, the volume of supply of yellow tomatoes in the domestic market will increase in the coming weeks, and this, in turn, will lead to a further decrease in the price of this product. Thus, if weather anomalies do not occur in the coming weeks, the situation of a sharp price drop in the last week can be considered as the beginning of a downward trend in the dynamics of wholesale prices of yellow tomatoes, - says the expert. Earlier, it was reported that the price of tomatoes in Uzbekistan continues to break records.
