The government of Iranian President Ibrahim Raisi stressed the need for a faster implementation of about 18 memoranda of Understanding signed with Uzbekistan in September, evaluating them as necessary to expand economic ties between the two states. This was reported by the IRNA news agency.
The chairman made the corresponding statement at a meeting with the Speaker of the Legislative Chamber of the Supreme Assembly Nurdinjon Ismailov, which was held in Tehran on an official visit.
“Although the development of political and economic relations between Iran and Uzbekistan over the past year has changed the position of relations, the existing opportunities in the two countries require us to activate our efforts to further develop economic and commercial relations between the two parties,” he said.
The chairman had visited Samarkand in September to attend the Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit. The ministers and government agencies accompanying him on the visit have signed 18 documents covering various areas of cooperation with their Uzbek counterparts, including trade, oil and gas, cargo transit, technology and tourism.
At a meeting with Raisi Ismailov, he also said that the parliaments of Iran and Uzbekistan play an important role in the development of cooperation between the two peoples.
In turn, Ismailov highly appreciated the foreign policy of the president of Iran, which prioritized the development of relations with neighboring countries in Iran, and said that Uzbekistan also paid great attention to the development of relations with neighboring countries in its new Constitution.
