Uzbekistan has named a preliminary date for the celebration of Eid al-Adha this year.
In 2023, the most likely date for the celebration of Kurban Hayit on the territory of the republic is June 28. This is reported by Sputnik with reference to the fatwa center of the Office of Muslims of Uzbekistan.
According to the report, the exact date of the Kurban Hayit holiday, depending on the new moon, will be announced 10 days before the holiday based on the decision of the kengash ulema. This is about the last days of June.
The most likely date is June 28.
Earlier it was reported that previously in 2023 Kurban Hayit will be celebrated on June 29 (Thursday). However, now in various sources the dates vary – from June 28 to June 30. In particular, the spiritual administration of Muslims of Tatarstan believes that Kurban Hayit will be celebrated on June 28.
In Uzbekistan, the exact date will be set closer to the holiday. According to the legislation, the day of celebration can be postponed for one day.
In December last year, the President signed a decree on the establishment of additional non-working days during the celebration of official dates and the postponement of weekends in 2023. On April 20 of this year, the head of state amended the above document by a new decree. According to the new decree, June 30 (Friday) is declared an additional day off for all employees, regardless of the type of working week.
In addition, July 1 (Saturday) will be an additional day off for employees with a 6-day working week.
Based on the above data, it can be concluded that the residents of Uzbekistan will have a rest at least three days in a row beforehand in Kurban Hayit:
- June 30, 2023 (Friday) – an additional day off for all employees, regardless of the type of working week;
- July 1, 2023 (Saturday) – an additional day off for employees with a 6-day working week;
- July 2, 2023 (Sunday) is a day off according to the calendar.
However, if Kurban Hayit is celebrated on June 29 (Thursday), then Uzbekistanis will rest for four days in a row, if – on June 28 – for five days in a row.
