President Shavkat Mirziyoyev has signed a law aimed at protecting children from all forms of violence. The document introduces amendments to five codes and six laws. Saida Mirziyoyeva, Head of the Presidential Administration, announced this.
Under the law, individuals who commit sexual violence against children under the age of 14 may face up to 25 years in prison or life imprisonment. There is also no statute of limitations for prosecuting such grave crimes.
Furthermore, individuals who inflict physical or mental suffering on a child—including employees of educational institutions and close relatives—will be held accountable under the law. Sentences for crimes resulting in a child's death cannot be mitigated.
Saida Mirziyoyeva emphasized that those who violate the lives, health, and dignity of children must face strict accountability.
The bill was drafted at the initiative of the "Adolat" Social Democratic Party faction. It was adopted by the Legislative Chamber in September and approved by the Senate on October 2.
