A proposal has been made in Uzbekistan to reduce the term of military service by one month for conscripts who achieve high results in national reading competitions. The relevant bill was adopted in the first reading by the Legislative Chamber on October 13.
Under the bill, soldiers who excel in the competition could be incentivized through a reduction in their service term. This initiative aims to popularize reading among military personnel, foster a culture of reading, and broaden their knowledge and worldview.
Additionally, the bill proposes establishing a legal framework for concluding new contracts with graduates of higher military educational institutions—including foreign ones—who specialize as pilots. This measure is intended to effectively utilize the potential of experienced, qualified pilots and to advance military aviation.
As the bill has currently only passed the first reading, the proposal to shorten the service term of soldiers who win reading competitions has not yet come into effect.
