Turkmenistan took part in the election of the head of the World Customs Organization

The delegation of the State Customs Service of Turkmenistan took part in the election of the new Secretary General of the World Customs Organization. The representative of the United States, Ian Saunders, became the winner, the press service of the Turkmen customs reports.
In addition, delegates held discussions at the 141st and 142nd sessions of the WCO Council in Brussels, Belgium. This decision-making body meets once a year to discuss timely solutions and approaches that can be used by the countries participating in the dialogue. Turkmenistan has been a member of the organization since 1993.
Cooperation between Turkmenistan and the WCO took on a particularly significant character in 2021 and 2023, having acceded to two conventions of the organization, which the Council monitors. We are talking about the Harmonized System for the Description of Customs Procedures (Kyoto Convention) and the Harmonized System for the Description and Coding of Goods, respectively.
