Azerbaijani para-taekwondo athletes who successfully performed at international tournaments returned to their homeland
Members of the Azerbaijani national para-taekwondo team, who successfully performed at the European Championships in the Netherlands, the open international tournament in South Korea (Chuncheon 2023 World Para Taekwondo Open Challenge) and the Grand Prix in France, returned to their homeland.
Report informs that at the Heydar Aliyev International Airport they were met by the officials of the federation, relatives of athletes, fans, members of the public and journalists.
At the European Championship, which was held in Rotterdam on August 14-16, Azerbaijani para-taekwondo wrestlers won five medals. Imameddin Khalilov (70 kg, K-44) and Abulfaz Abuzarli (80 kg, K-44) took gold, Royala Fataliyeva (52 kg, K44) became the second, and Amin Shikhaliyev (63 kg, K44) and Sabir Zeynalov (58 kg) , K44) were awarded bronze.
The performances of Azerbaijani para-taekwondo athletes were also successful at the international tournament held in the South Korean Chungcheong on August 21-22. So, Imameddin Khalilov (70 kg, K-44) won the gold medal, and Abulfaz Abuzarli (80 kg, K-44) won the bronze medal.
Sabir Zeynalov (58 kg) added another medal to the national team. In the quarter-finals of the Para-taekwondo Grand Prix, which took place in Paris on August 30, the Azerbaijani athlete defeated the Japanese opponent with a score of 29:18, however, losing to the Turkish opponent in the semi-finals, S. Zeynalov took 3rd place.
A medal of similar value was won by Imameddin Khalilov (70 kg) and Abulfaz Abuzarli (80 kg).
