In the U.S. state of Georgia, Keisha Lance Bottoms, representing the Democratic Party, won the gubernatorial election. She became the first Black woman in the country's history to be elected as a state governor. She secured more votes than her opponent, the Republican candidate and billionaire Rick Jackson. Despite spending over $200 million of his own funds on his election campaign, Jackson conceded defeat. Bottoms' victory is also of historic significance for Georgia. For the first time since 1998, the Democrats have won the governorship of the state. During the campaign, Bottoms focused on economic issues and criticized the policies of the Donald Trump administration. At her victory celebration, she pledged to protect the interests of all the state's residents, regardless of their political views.
