Female delegates to the United Nations ' 2022 COP27 climate conference complained of harassment, insults, and mustache from male colleagues.

One of those persecuted at the previous year's conference was Camila Sepeda, head of the Mexican delegation. He told reporters, among other things, that he had received “inappropriate messages” from male delegates.

Sepeda did not report it immediately, but decided to talk about it because other women were also being harassed at UN talks. According to the head of the Mexican delegation, the organization should take “preventive measures”for such frustrations.

Another person familiar with the events of the 2022 climate conference told the Financial Times that women other than Sepeda had suffered a mustache.

Against the background of these complaints, about 20 countries participating in the conference sent letters to the UN. Mexico, the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany, Peru, Canada, and other nations urged organizers to focus on “how negotiators are being treated” and to ensure a “safe place” at the conference.

According to the publication, there were also cases of bullying at COP28 preparatory events in Bonn, Germany. Two sources told The Financial Times that a number of bullying complaints were filed by women in the Mexican delegation, with men attempting to “undermine trust in them”.
