An investigation has been completed against the ex-management of the Metropolitan State Enterprise, as well as officials of contracting organizations - Almatymetrokurylys JSC and Automation and Technologies Service LLP, the press service of the transport prosecutor's office reports.

"According to the investigation, the suspects had extensive management functions during the construction of a new Almaty metro line. It was these powers that allowed them to create criminal conditions and steal 5 billion tenge," the report says.

According to investigators, for this they organized the collection of fictitious price offers and, on their basis, formed an estimate for the purchase of equipment at a price higher than 10 times their cost. Subsequently, the stolen funds were cashed out through pseudo-enterprises.

"Three expensive apartments, one office space in Almaty, a land plot in the Almaty region, luxury cars, branded watches and a number of other assets of the suspects were arrested to return the stolen property," the agency said. The case was sent to court.

Recall that in July 2022, it was reported about an investigation into theft and bribes at AlmatyMetro. Then the audits revealed violations totaling 120.9 billion tenge. In February of this year, it became known that additional rolling stock would be launched in the metro.
