Sadr Japarov received UNESCO Director-General Audrey Azoulay

The President of the Kyrgyz Republic Sadr Japarov received UNESCO Director General Audrey Azoulay, who arrived in the country on June 8 on an official visit.

An exchange of views took place on cooperation in the field of preventing the consequences of climate change, protection and development of cultural and historical heritage.

The head of state noted that Kyrgyzstan attaches great importance to cooperation with UNESCO, especially the expansion of international contacts in the fields of education and science.

Sadir Japarov stated that in recent years Kyrgyzstan has taken a worthy place in the world community and drew attention to positive changes in the country. Intensive work is underway to ensure political and economic stability, social and cultural development of the country, the education system is being reformed.

He noted that this work is aimed at improving the quality of education, increasing technological literacy and practical skills, training specialists and expanding educational opportunities for all citizens of Kyrgyzstan. Particular attention is paid to the spiritual and moral development of the individual and physical education.

As the President noted, in recent years, measures have been taken to develop a creative industry based on the intellectual potential of a person and aimed at developing innovative entrepreneurship.

As part of regional initiatives on the use of technology and digital innovation, he expressed the hope that UNESCO will support the development of the national creative industry, especially in Central Asia.

Sadr Japarov recalled that in recent decades, Kyrgyzstan has been an active supporter of the interests of mountainous countries in the international arena to address issues of sustainable development and the consequences of climate change.

“I believe that the development of cooperation between the Kyrgyz Republic and UNESCO in the implementation of projects aimed at promoting biological and geological diversity, scientific research, forecasting will contribute to the conservation of mountain ecosystems and the sustainable development of mountain regions by rational and careful methods,” the Head of State emphasized.

Regarding the issue of climate change, the President noted with satisfaction the planned visit of the Director-General of UNESCO to the Adygen and Golubin glaciers in Kyrgyzstan. Sadr Japarov mentioned them earlier at a meeting in New York and invited Audrey Azoulay to visit Kyrgyzstan and see with his own eyes the shrinking glaciers.

UNESCO Director-General Audrey Azoulay thanked the President for his hospitality and noted that it was a great honor for him to come to Kyrgyzstan for the first time.

He emphasized with great satisfaction the active position of Kyrgyzstan in cooperation with UNESCO in the protection of the cultural and historical heritage of mankind.

Audrey Azoulay also talked about the vast and diverse intangible heritage of Kyrgyzstan, noting the importance of preserving the historical and cultural monuments of Kyrgyzstan for future generations.

Taking the opportunity, the Director-General of UNESCO expressed his gratitude to Sadr Japarov for the opportunity to personally visit the glaciers in question during his stay in Kyrgyzstan and drew attention to the expansion of cooperation on climate change issues in mountainous countries.

At the end of the meeting, Audrey Azoulay presented the President with a certificate of inclusion in the list of intangible heritage of the manuscript of the Manas epic in the version of the monastic Milkmbay Orozbakov.\

The parties expressed their readiness to develop cooperation between the Kyrgyz Republic and UNESCO and further plans for the implementation of joint programs.
