Modernization of the organization was discussed at a meeting of the SCO Council of National Coordinators in Almaty
Almaty. August 21st. KAZAKHSTAN TODAY - On August 21, 2023, the Council of National Coordinators (CNC) of the SCO member states began to work in Almaty under the chairmanship of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
The agenda includes a wide range of issues related to the implementation of adopted and preparation of new decisions of the Councils of Heads of State, Heads of Government and Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the Member States, the modernization of the Organization, including, taking into account the expansion of its membership, the improvement of interaction with observer states, partners in dialogue of the SCO, as well as international organizations and others," the organization's website says.
The work of the Council of People's Commissars will last until August 24 of this year.
As previously reported, from July 2023, Kazakhstan assumed the role of chairman of the SCO. President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev presented the priorities of Kazakhstan's chairmanship in the SCO, which will be of strategic importance for all member states of the organization.
In July, the countries of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization signed a joint declaration following the meeting of the Council of Heads of State of the organization.
At the 23rd summit, Iran became the official ninth member of the organization. In addition, a memorandum was signed on the obligations of the Republic of Belarus in order to obtain the status of a SCO member state. This document provides for the accession of Belarus to previously adopted international treaties, the financial aspects of accession and the replacement of quota positions in the permanent bodies of the organization.
Almaty has been declared the tourist and cultural capital of the SCO.
