Azerbaijani President Receives Speaker of Georgian Parliament

On May 15, President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev received Chairman of the Georgian Parliament Shalva Papuashvili.

Report informs, the head of state noted the successful development of friendly and fraternal relations between Azerbaijan and Georgia in various fields and expressed satisfaction with the fruitful cooperation in the field of inter-parliamentary relations.

President Ilham Aliyev stressed the importance of Shalva Papuashvili's participation in a special meeting of the Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan, dedicated to the 100th anniversary of national leader Heydar Aliyev, in terms of expanding bilateral relations.

The head of state recalled with satisfaction his visit to Georgia and the visit of the Prime Minister of Georgia to Azerbaijan, noted that during these visits, detailed discussions were held related to the development of bilateral cooperation.

President Ilham Aliyev touched upon the problems that Azerbaijan and Georgia faced in the early 1990s and stressed the importance of implementing joint projects. In this context, the implementation of the Baku-Supsa oil pipeline was noted as the first project, after which other projects were successfully implemented.

It was emphasized that today, thanks to the implementation of these projects, our countries play an important role in ensuring energy security. It was also noted that cooperation between Azerbaijan and Georgia is important for expanding transport opportunities through the Middle Corridor.

Shalva Papuashvili said that it was an honor for him to participate in the event dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the great leader. Emphasizing the role of the national leader in the comprehensive development of Azerbaijan, the guest noted that it was under his leadership that strategic projects were implemented. The Chairman of the Georgian Parliament said that the wise steps taken by the great leader in his time are of great importance for the future of Azerbaijan. He expressed gratitude to the President of Azerbaijan for his personal role in building strategic partnerships between Azerbaijan and Georgia.

The guest touched upon the significance of the joint projects implemented by our countries. In this context, he noted the project of Azerbaijan, Georgia, Romania and Hungary for laying a power transmission line along the bottom of the Black Sea. The Chairman of the Georgian Parliament also touched upon the implementation of such large-scale projects as the laying of a submarine fiber-optic cable along the bottom of the Black Sea together with Azerbaijan's partners.

Shalva Papuashvili highly appreciated the support of Azerbaijan and our people for the territorial integrity of Georgia in difficult times for his country.

During the conversation, an exchange of views took place on other issues of mutual interest.
