Doctors in Uzbekistan performed the operation to separate Siamese twins for the first time, the press service of the Ministry of Health reports. The twins were born in Kyrgyzstan in May 2022. They could not get help in their homeland, so their parents decided to refer to Uzbek doctors. The operation lasted three hours; it was performed on December 19 last year, at the Educational and Methodical Center of Neonatal Surgery of the Republican Perinatal Center.

"For several months, after rereading and studying various literature, analyzing videos of surgeries performed internationally, we decided to take full responsibility and get to work. We explained the entire situation to the parents of the children. We also told them that if they wanted, they could take them to another country. But they said that... they trusted us completely. That faith also gave us strength," said professor Bakhtiyor Ergashev. During the surgery, ultrasound and an argon scalpel were used to prevent bleeding from the liver and other vessels, as well as modern bloodstop hemostatic material. As a result, the babies were separated with minimal bleeding.

Specialists assess the condition of the children as stable. They should be discharged in the near future.

Health Minister Amrillo Inoyatov awarded the specialists who took part in the operation with "Excellent Health Care" badges.
