Zoomer — chosen as the word of 2025

The portal Gramota.ru has announced the word “zoomer” as the word of the year 2025. Among the most frequently mentioned words were also “burnout” (38%), “red flag” (37%), and “prompt” (36%).
A total of 469 philologists from 23 organizations in Russia, representing various age groups, took part in the voting. The “Word of the Year” competition is conducted through a multi-stage methodology: first, new words actively used in speech are selected, then statistical analysis is carried out to remove one-time or temporary expressions.

A zoomer (Generation Z) is a representative of the generation born in the late 1990s to early 2010s who grew up with the internet and digital technologies.
