Starting from 2026, YouTube plans to introduce stricter measures against low-quality content generated using artificial intelligence. Such videos are commonly referred to as “AI slop” — mass-produced, low-value AI-generated content with little originality or usefulness.

In recent years, the rapid development of AI tools has led to a sharp increase in automatically generated videos on YouTube. These videos often feature:

• meaningless or generic scripts,

• synthetic voices,

• repetitive visuals,

• misleading or unverified information.

According to YouTube representatives, this trend negatively affects the overall quality of the platform and undermines the efforts of genuine creators.

Key goals of the new policy

YouTube aims to:

• increase reliable and high-quality content for viewers;

• protect original and creative content creators;

• limit mass-produced AI videos designed to manipulate algorithms;

• maintain trust and quality across the platform.

At the same time, YouTube does not intend to ban artificial intelligence entirely. AI-generated content that is used creatively, responsibly, and adds real value will continue to be allowed. Restrictions will mainly target low-effort, low-quality videos created purely for monetization.
