Users are charged an annual fee to use basic features such as posting, commenting, and quoting.
New account holders created in New Zealand and the Philippines are already subject to this restriction. They will first need to verify their phone number and then make a deposit.
According to the owner of the company, Elon Musk, the payment will be symbolic, but will help fight bot accounts.
