Work permits for migrants in Russia may be abolished

Russian President Vladimir Putin has been proposed to abolish the patent system for labor migrants. The initiative was put forward by Sergey Mironov, leader of the “A Just Russia — For Truth” party.

Putin said the issue would be considered, stressing that migration is a sensitive topic for Russian citizens.

Currently, the patent serves as a work permit for migrants. It must be obtained within 30 days, requiring the submission of documents, a medical examination, and advance monthly tax payments. Starting from 2025, the monthly fee for a patent in Moscow will amount to 8,900 rubles.
