Word of the Year 2024

Oxford Dictionary has announced its word of the year 2024. Linguists have compiled a list of six words that capture the emotions and conversations that have taken place throughout 2024. After two weeks of public voting and extensive discussion, the phrase “brain rot” has been named the word of the year 2024.
The term (“brain rot” — literally “brain rot”) refers to the deterioration of a person’s mental or intellectual state, primarily due to excessive consumption of material that is considered irrelevant or does not require any effort (nowadays, especially low-quality online content), reflecting growing public concern about the impact of social media, especially on young people.
The term was chosen after more than 37,000 people voted.
