At the start of the 2025/26 academic year, 577.7 thousand teachers were employed in general secondary education schools across Uzbekistan. This represents an increase of 12.8 thousand, or 2.3 percent, compared to the previous academic year.
Of the total number of teachers, 418.8 thousand were women and 158.9 thousand were men; women thus accounted for 72.5 percent of the teaching workforce.
Regionally, the highest numbers of teachers were found in the Samarkand and Kashkadarya regions, with 65.1 thousand in each. Fergana had 60.6 thousand teachers, and Surkhandarya had 52.3 thousand.
The region with the fewest teachers was Syrdarya, where 14.2 thousand teachers were employed.
