Woman sentenced to 6 years for trying to sell four-day-old baby

A woman in the Termez district of Surkhandarya region was sentenced to 6 years for trying to sell her four-day-old baby for $1,500. 

A woman born in 2002 met a young man in March 2025 and became pregnant. In January 2026, she gave birth to a son. She told medical workers that she had no husband and did not know who the father of the child was, and asked them for help. After that, they agreed to sell the child for $1,500 in order to “get rid of the curse” and pay the contract fee. The woman was caught by law enforcement agencies while receiving $1,400 and 1.2 million soums from the buyer. 

The court found her guilty of human trafficking and sentenced her to 6 years in prison.
