Woman Nearly Killed While Trying to Photograph a Snow Leopard

In Fuyun County, Xinjiang (China), a female skier came too close to a snow leopard to take a photo and was attacked. Reports indicate that the tourist approached the predator to within about 3 meters. The snow leopard pounced on her and knocked her to the ground. Although her ski helmet prevented serious injuries, she was hospitalized. Her condition is reported to be stable.

Chinese authorities have warned tourists about the increasing snow leopard population in the area and strongly advise not to approach the predators, to remain in vehicles, and not to travel alone.
