Woman Killed in Flood Had Her Gold Earrings Stolen by Men Pulling Her Hair
A video showing two men pulling the body of a woman who died in a flood in Nepal by her hair and removing the gold earrings from her ears has circulated on social media. The video has caused widespread public outrage. Nepalese police said that individuals involved in the incident have been arrested.
As a reminder, a severe flood occurred near the Nepal–China border on August 26. The natural disaster was caused by the collapse of a glacier in the Himalayas. The flow of ice, rocks and mud into the river triggered a powerful mudslide, causing extensive destruction.
As of August 28, the death toll in Nepal had reached 469, while more than 1,000 people remained missing.
