Will there be early parliamentary elections in Uzbekistan?

The bill gave the House of Representatives and the Senate the power to dissolve themselves. The Deputy Speaker of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis Odiljon Tojiyev stated that this does not mean that the parliamentary elections will be held before the deadline.

Yesterday, the draft law on the activities of the Oliy Majlis chambers caused various questions to arise among the general public, in particular, questions related to the term of parliamentary elections and other issues. Odiljon Tojiyev answered the questions in this regard.

According to him, this draft law is expected to introduce amendments and additions to 14 laws (including the Election Code). So what was the need for it?

"New norms regarding the powers and rights of the parliamentary chambers were included in our constitution, but these norms do not exist in the relevant laws and regulations. In order to fill the gap in this regard, a group of deputies took the initiative and developed this draft law and submitted it to the chamber.

"The establishment of this power in the draft law does not mean that early parliamentary elections will be held this year. The draft law has just been considered conceptually at meetings of the responsible committee and factions," said the deputy speaker of the Legislative Chamber.

In addition, draft laws undergo at least two more stages of discussion in the responsible committee, factions, and the plenary session and are sent to the Senate for approval. After the approval of the Senate, the President signs and enters into force.

"The reason why I have touched on the specifics of the law-making one by one is that the interval between the passage of this bill by the Houses of Parliament and the President and its implementation is not short, which means early parliamentary elections this year." It is another proof that the "predictions" about the possibility of lib will not be true," says Odiljon Tojiyev.

This bill was considered in the first reading at the plenary session held on September 27 and was adopted by the deputies. Odiljon Tojiyev said that now the text of the draft law will be posted on the website of the Legislative Chamber to receive suggestions and comments from the public. The draft law will be improved based on the suggestions and opinions of the public discussion.
