Why isn't BTS participating in the Grammys?

South Korean group BTS has announced that it will not submit its music for this year's Grammy Awards. The decision follows the introduction of a new category, Best Asian Pop Music Performance, dedicated to Korean, Japanese, and Chinese pop music.

The group stated that music should be judged by the same standards regardless of language or country of origin. For that reason, BTS decided not to take part in this year's awards.

BTS had been considered one of the leading Grammy contenders. Their new album, "Arirang," was released on March 20 and became the group's first full-length album in four years. One day after the release, BTS launched a world tour. On July 19, the group also performed alongside Madonna and Shakira during the historic halftime show of the FIFA World Cup final.
