What Was Stolen from the Louvre?

At Paris’s world-famous Louvre Museum, on October 19, thieves stole nine priceless jewels belonging to French emperors in just seven minutes:

🔹 Empress Eugénie’s tiara, adorned with 212 pearls, 1,998 diamonds, and 992 pink-cut diamonds;
🔹 A decorative bow set with 2,438 diamonds and 196 pink stones;
🔹 The “Empress Eugénie” brooch from 1855;
🔹 A set of sapphire earrings once owned by Queen Hortense and Queen Marie-Amélie;
🔹 An emerald and diamond necklace, gifted by Napoleon to Marie-Louise as a wedding present.

The thieves, disguised as museum staff, entered the building using a construction crane, opened two display cases, and took the items.
Interior Minister Laurent Nuñez described them as a “professional team” and suggested they might be foreigners.

During their escape, the criminals dropped Empress Eugénie’s imperial tiara, which was later found outside the museum.
An investigation into the incident is ongoing.
