A Chinese woman canceled her wedding after receiving a betrothal gift of about $28,000 from her fiancé.
The couple met through a matchmaker last year, got engaged in January, and planned to hold their wedding in November. The groom prepared for the wedding and booked a hotel. They also held a wedding photoshoot.

A few weeks before the wedding, the bride decided that the groom was too honest and earned too little, so she canceled the marriage. She stated that she would return the “bride price,” but keep $4200 for the hugs during the photoshoot.

Later, the bride explained that the $4200 included personal expenses from their dates. Eventually, the couple reached an agreement, and $24,000 was returned to the groom.
