Washington Also Declares September 1 as “Uzbekistan Independence Day”
Washington, D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser signed a special proclamation declaring September 1, 2026, “Uzbekistan Independence Day” in the city.
The declaration recognizes the 35th anniversary of Uzbekistan’s independence, the country’s rich cultural heritage, and its achievements. It also notes that the United States was among the first countries to recognize Uzbekistan’s independence.
The mayor highlighted the friendly relations between Uzbekistan and the United States, as well as the contribution of Washington’s Uzbek community to the city’s cultural life.
Earlier, the mayor of Seattle also declared September 1 “Uzbekistan Independence Day.”
