Was Gulnara Karimova Illegally Detained? Government Issues Statement

The UN Human Rights Council Working Group reported that Gulnara Karimova was detained without a warrant in 2014 and that her rights were violated. According to it, Karimova was held in solitary confinement for a long time, pressure was exerted on her lawyers, and she was deprived of pre-trial protection.
The Uzbek government responded by issuing a statement, stating that the UN group based its conclusions on information from only one side, and that all criminal cases against Karimova were considered within the framework of the law and in accordance with international law. She was found guilty of serious crimes such as tax evasion, fraud, and money laundering. The court decisions were based on legal evidence, and the right to a defense was ensured.
The Uzbek government also stated its commitment to international obligations.
