Uzbekistan unveils new livestock development program

President Shavkat Mirziyoyev reviewed a presentation on measures to develop the livestock and poultry sectors, increase the production of meat and dairy products, and introduce modern technologies into the industry. This was reported by the Presidential Press Service.

According to the presentation, growing population numbers and increasing tourist arrivals have led to higher demand for food products, particularly meat. Uzbekistan's annual demand for meat currently stands at 2.15 million tonnes, while domestic production amounts to 1.6 million tonnes.

To address this gap, a comprehensive livestock development program for 2026–2028 has been prepared. The plan includes restoring operations at 103 inactive livestock enterprises, supporting livestock-specialized regions, building lightweight livestock shelters for households, and implementing new investment projects. These measures are expected to increase annual meat production by an additional 190,000 tonnes.

In addition, 802 new projects will expand the number of cattle, sheep, and goats, adding another 20,000 tonnes of meat and 120,000 tonnes of milk per year. Imports of pedigree livestock from Mongolia, China, Belarus, and European countries are also expected to boost annual meat production by an additional 44,000 tonnes.

The government plans to allocate $463 million for livestock development and $432 million for poultry projects. A new digital platform, Smart Fermer, will also be launched to provide farmers with online veterinary services, subsidies, and livestock management tools.

At the conclusion of the presentation, the President instructed officials to improve the economic efficiency of the projects, ensure the effective use of funds, and guarantee a stable supply of high-quality and affordable food products to the domestic market.
