Uzbekistan to launch its own satellite and astronaut

In his address to Parliament, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev announced that for the first time in the history of independent Uzbekistan, work has begun to launch a national satellite and the country’s first astronaut — a citizen of Uzbekistan — into space.

“I am confident that this will provide a strong boost to the scientific and technological development of New Uzbekistan and take our national progress to a new level,” the head of state said.
