Uzbekistan to give subsidies to those who hire former prisoners

The Ministry of Poverty and Employment has published a draft resolution "On additional measures to support certain categories of the population in need of social protection and to promote their employment."

According to the document, from November 1, 2023 to January 1, 2025, a one-time subsidy in the amount of 3 minimum wages (990,000 soums) will be allocated from the State Employment Promotion Fund for each person released from penitentiary institutions that hired business entities.

In this case, the subsidy is paid after the employed person continues to work at the workplace for at least 3 months.

Information about the release of a citizen from institutions for the execution of punishments is provided to the internal affairs bodies to the internal affairs bodies.

A system of constant monitoring of the employment status of persons released from penitentiary institutions will also be introduced. This will create an opportunity to determine their employment status in real time.

Discussion of this draft document will last until 4 August.

Cash assistance is also provided to citizens who have served their prison terms in Uzbekistan. The aid money is given out once to each beneficiary for projects in areas such as entrepreneurship, architecture and crafts to help them socialize.
