Uzbekistan to allow children to use their father’s name as a surname
In Uzbekistan, it will now be possible to give a child their father’s name as a surname. The relevant law was approved by the Senate on August 8 and sent to the President for signature.
Under the current procedure, a child’s surname is usually based on the surname of the father or mother. In accordance with national tradition, the grandfather’s name can also be used as a surname. If the new amendment comes into force, for example, if the father’s name is “Ali”, the child’s surname could officially be registered as “Ali”.
