Uzbekistan to accelerate construction of 4th copper enrichment plant

Shavkat Mirziyoyev was briefed on major investment projects being implemented in the copper industry and their implementation process. The presentation focused on the development of the copper industry, the effective development of existing deposits, and the expansion of production of high-value-added products through deep processing of raw materials. It was noted that in March this year, the first stage of the 3rd copper enrichment plant was launched at the Almalyk Mining and Metallurgical Combine. The cost of this project, which is being implemented within the framework of the “Yoshlik-1” mine, is $2.7 billion. When the plant reaches full capacity, it is planned to process 60 million tons of ore per year and produce about 900 thousand tons of copper concentrate. As a result, the daily production volume of copper concentrate at the combine will increase from 2,400 tons to 5,000 tons. The issue of accelerating the project of the 4th copper enrichment plant was also discussed. Currently, basic engineering documentation for the project is being prepared, earthworks and geological drilling are being carried out at the construction site. The new project plans to make efficient use of energy and water resources, introduce modern technologies, and expand cooperation with international engineering companies. The President instructed officials to allocate the necessary land for the 4th copper enrichment plant, accelerate preparatory work, and clarify the plan for the phased launch of the project.
