According to the results of the first quarter of 2026, Uzbekistan's public debt reached $47 billion. This is $4.4 billion more than in the same period last year. According to the Ministry of Economy and Finance, $39.8 billion of the debt is external, and $7.2 billion is domestic. $19.7 billion of external debt was directed to cover the budget deficit.
Loans were also used to finance the energy, transport, agriculture and water management, housing and communal services, healthcare and education sectors. The state's largest creditors remain the World Bank ($9.04 billion) and the Asian Development Bank ($8.3 billion).
Earlier, the Central Bank reported that Uzbekistan's gross external debt exceeded $82 billion at the end of 2025.
